Their intimate show at the Duchess in York a couple of week back was amazing. Totes amaze balls, if you will. Today, MAXIMO PARK have announced a November tour which calls in at Sheffield. No Leeds show? Ah well. It’s worth the hoof down the M1 for their new tunes…
They played some new stuff from The National Health, for the first time at York, introducing us to the slick, synthy, 80s vibe exploding from tunes like opener The National Health, Hips And Lips and others. I forget their names. Wolf Among Men was one of them… But what I recall ever-so-clearly is how well they fitted in with a hit-strewn set. They were F-class.
By the time the November tour kicks off, the album will have had sunk in (it’s released on June 11), and hearing the new tunes will be like slipping on a pair of well-worn slippers. Scissor-kicking rock slippers, mind you.
The fice-piece are heading to The Plug in Sheffield on Monday, November 5. Bonfire Night! Hoorah!
Tickets go on sale on Friday (June 1) at 9am from HERE or HERE for a very reasonable £16.
Here’s the quite funny video for Hips And Lips if you’ve not already seen it. It’s got that lad from This Is England dancing round his bedroom. I lol’d:

Great! Now maybe I can get over the disappointment of missing York!
