I can’t believe I’ve just typed that. ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT. Playing in Leeds. Trying hard not to type lots of sweary words of excitement.
Fuck it >> FUCKING HELL THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING NEWS. SO UTTERLY FUCKING EXCITED YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE!!!
Right, deep breath, crack on.
So yeah, San Diego’s finest sons of bitches are finally heading to these shores after reforming last December. As soon as they announced their reunion, I wondered when and where they’d land.
They announced a decent European tour earlier this year, blatantly ignoring old Blighty. What gives? ‘Maybe they’ll be playing at Leeds Festival,’ I thought, with the Lock-Up Stage headline slot practically having their name written all over it. Nope. Nothing.
Then yesterday, as I recovered from a Great North Run, some tweets blew my knackered mind >>
No.2) Rocket From The Crypt | Return to the UK and play a special small show. | Wednesday 4th December | WOAH!!! | Get ready for that!!!

I nearly let out a bit of wee. I blame the effects of a 13.1-mile run. Anyway, now my mind was racing. When was the last time I saw RFTC? I know I’ve seen them a lot – I trekked down to Reading Festival in 1996 just to see them play (and a packed-out in-store session at Virgin Records the day before), and they stormed the Duchess of York in Leeds around the same time. That was an awesome show.
This year has seen so many of my favourite bands getting back together, and I’ve been lucky enough to have seen Texas Is The Reason and Quicksand this summer. RFTC are next up – and it’s going to be amazing. Possibly the best show the Brudenell will have ever staged.
You all know Rocket From The Crypt, yeah? The rock’n’roll six-piece – Speedo, Petey X, ND, JC 2000, Apollo 9 and Atom – hit the big time in the UK with breakthrough tune On A Rope gatecrashed the charts, seeing them appear on Top Of The Pops and The Word (remember that?).
But go back a few years and you’ll find a wealth of material spanning many 7″s and two of my favourite albums of all time – Paint As Fragrance and Circa: Now. Go find them and love them.
So, the news, then. ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT have just announced four UK shows in December, and they’re heading to the Brudenell Social Club on Wednesday, December 4 (fans will be happy to know they’re also playing over in Manchester at Gorilla on Sunday, December 1, Newcastle’s Cluny on Monday, December 2 and hardcore fans may fancy heading down to London for their show at Koko on Friday, December 6). I’m very tempted to do the three northern shows.
Tickets (£20) go on sale tomorrow morning (Wednesday, September 18) at 9am. Make sure you’re on the ball, coz these bad boys will sell out in no time. Check Crash Records, Jumbo Records, Lunatickets and Seetickets.
In anticipation of tomorrow morning’s ticket rush, enjoy RFTC doing their thing on Yo Gabba Gabba, America’s indie rock version of Teletubbies >>
Yay! This is going to be so awesome. Gig of the year? I reckon so.
