Rupert Stroud releases charity single for Alzheimer’s Research UK

Leeds singer-songwriter RUPERT STROUD has released a new single, Always, to help raise more funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Being on the ball as I always am, I thought it was released this coming Monday, but it came out last Monday, April 23. Oops. Still, it’s great tune for a great cause…

Rupert, who has left the bright lights of Leeds for the rolling countryside of Ilkley, recorded the song, as he has with all his songs, at Soundworks Studios on Kirkstall Road with top bloke and top producer (he’s twiddled knobs for Embrace, Pigeons, The Cribs and The Music) Will Jackson.

The song is inspired by Rupert’s grandma, Eileen, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. She died two years ago.

“My grandma was one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet – we were very close. When she was younger, Grandma enjoyed singing and could have gone on to be a professional dancer if circumstances were different. I’ve probably got my love of music and rhythm from her – she always encouraged me.

“But for the last few years of her life she needed 24-hour care. She didn’t recognise any of us and couldn’t speak – it was heartbreaking. She’d be proud to know this song is a tribute to her and that it will raise money for the new treatments so desperately needed for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.”

The video for Always was produced by our pals at Shot By Sodium. Check it out:

The song can be downloaded at Donations for the track start at a mere £2 and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Go forth and download!

“Writing music and performing live is my passion and having this positive focus makes it so worthwhile. It’s young people like me who’ll reap the benefits of today’s pioneering research. I want to do my bit to help so that other people don’t have to suffer like my wonderful grandma,” says Rupert.

He’s part of the huge Live At Leeds line-up next weekend, playing at The Wardrobe at 1pm. If you haven’t got a ticket for the all-day, multi-venue event, he’s playing a special gig at Ilkley Playhouse on June 30 in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK. Not sure on ticket details for this, but click HERE for some info on Ilkley Playhouse bookings or get in touch with Rupert on Facebook or Twitter.
