The Get Up Kids share new tune Waking Up Alone ahead of Slam Dunk Festival appearance

The Get Up Kids

Missouri emo icons THE GET UP KIDS have revealed a new tune from their forthcoming album Problems, which is out this Friday.

Waking Up Alone is a punchy woosh of alt-pop, threading a line of fuzzy electronica through the band’s well-cut emo cloth. It’s damn catchy and we’ll be singing along when they hit up Slam Dunk Festival later in the month.

Check it out below:

Problems is the band’s first album in eight years, and going on this tune – and recently released tracks Satellites and The Problem Is Me – they’re back in fine form, albeit with a stronger pop sensibility than previous offerings.

“At one point with this band, if we came up with something that felt too much like when we first started out, we would’ve said, ‘No, we can’t do that anymore,’” says frontman Matt Pryor. “These days we’ve learned how to write without roadblocking the ideas that come naturally to us.”

The Get Up Kids take to Slam Dunk’s Dickies stage, sharing it with fellow emo stalwarts Saves The Day, Touche Amore and headliners The Menzingers.

Problems is out on May 10 via Big Scary Monsters.

Slam Dunk takes place at Temple Newsam, Leeds on May 25 and Hatfield Park, Hatfield on May 26. Tickets are still available from here.
