York indie boys FAUX PAS are rounding off a pretty great year with a storming hometown EP launch show at Fibbers on December 22.
Ahead of that, the Centre Stage 2016 winners have dropped a video for new tune I Hate Dancing, the last track off the self-titled four-track EP, which is out the same day as the show.
I Hate Dancing is a driving indie anthem bursting with promise and killer hooks. It’s really fucking cool. Check it out below:
“In a lot of ways, I Hate Dancing sums up really well what the EP is about and where we are at the minute as artists,” say the band.
“Inot really single material, with it being a four-and-a-half minute track, but we felt like putting a video to it would give us more freedom to express in greater detail the themes and topics of the song, and the EP it belongs to.
“Recording with Embrace’s Mickey Dale (who has worked with previous Centre Stage artists Marsicans and Mallrats) was unbelievable. He’s basically like a cool uncle, if your uncle had a kickass studio and guitars to die for. He just has a way with people, like when you’ve gotta record your part and your feeling a bit tense or nervous, he can totally get you into the moment and it’s perfect.”
Faux Pas emerged triumphant with a well-deserved win at this year’s Centre Stage competition, which is run by Martin House Children’s Hospice. The four-piece then went on to play at Leeds and Reading festivals in the summer.
“Centre stage was incredible for us – it was such a surreal experience. We went in to the competition not really knowing what to expect and certainly not expecting to win. The final was at one of our favourite ever venues – the O2 Academy Leeds holds a lot of special memories for us,” they say.
“Reading and Leeds is also a place that we have seen so many of our idols play, so it was a childhood dream to be a part of it. We’ve been to the festival for years so we know the Leeds site like our back yards, and it was great to go down south and see the Reading site firing on all cylinders.”
The band are set for a massive hometown show at Fibbers this Thursday with some cool special guests. The mighty MALLRATS, who won the Centre Stage competition last year, will be opening the show, and GLASS MOUNTAIN will be spreading some gloom-laden Christmas joy.
Faux Pas EP will be released on December 22 and will be available on Spotify and ITunes. However, for those who purchase a physical copy, expect a bit of an exclusive treat…
